Tim Richard (about) Teaching at: Trimble Spa and Natural Hot Springs, Durango Sports Club Address: telephone: (970) 749-0891 Tai chi can be performed in many ways, which result from the style and system that is being taught, who is teaching it, the teacher’s level of expertise, and skill in transmitting the information to the students. The student’s ability and willingness to learn is also an important factor in learning. You may find several people practicing tai chi in your home town and some of them might offer to teach various aspects of the taiji they have learned, particularly their own particular interpretation of what they have learned and wish to impart to others. Given this, it is easy to conclude that the teacher you choose is very important for your learning. I teach things that most other teachers don’t and they teach things I don’t. In some cases, we all teach the same things. The form for example may be one of the most universally recognized expressions of tai chi. Of course, many forms exist and many expressions of the same form are out there. It all depends on your teacher and his or her interpretation of the form at their particular stage of development. People often describe tai chi as an internal martial art, the internal being somewhat mysterious and elusive to most of us who have not trained for some time to understand what internal movement is and how to employ it in practice. My belief is if you learn essential internal movement techniques you can do any movement better. Any movement at all. Walking, sitting, eating, singing, swimming, bicycling, dancing, speaking, hoeing, shoveling, typing, boxing, skating, skiing, …. Anything and everything. If you have been doing tai chi for some time, I can help you improve your expression of it. I have been learning to do this for myself and feel strongly that I have the teaching skills as well as the internal knowledge to show you how you can improve whatever you. Don’t expect a quick results, but don’t be surprised you do get results quickly. Don’t expect a lot of knowledge at first, but don’t be surprised if you do learn a lot all of a sudden. This is the way of taiji.
